Designers are not robots but humans too! Their creations often reflect their emotions in one way or the other. Japanese designer Rio Kobayashi, carves his latest collection based on his memories around the time spent in a shared studio with his close friend. ‘Fish Table’ is an unusual art piece made in unison by designer Kobayashi and his painter friend, James Hague.
Each collection art piece serves either functionality or adds in as a decorative object. Turning the fish into a four-legged creature (table) and doubling a shark’s fin to fit in as a serving board on the table is a unique reflection of ideas.
Crafted using oakwood and painted using acrylic colors, the table is envisioned as part of a larger series of furniture depicting various food items. Tuna Table is a lone piece of furniture design inspired by food.

Rio is determined to showcase the importance of friendship in his life with colorful and humorous furniture designs. The collection reveals deeper meanings than merely serving as furniture pieces. Multi-layered narratives depicting personal and cultural aspects form the basis of this dining table.
The ‘Fatty Tuna’ dining table has come out to break the seriousness and monotony observed by Rio in the upcoming furniture collections. Just like an edible dish receives an interesting twist with some added new ingredient, Rio wishes to spark a conversation by bringing people together. His creations express an array of emotions depicted in myriad shapes, colors, and textures.
